Why mobile-friendly websites are an SEO Imperative

Last Modified: June 6, 2024

It’s no surprise that mobile-friendly websites are held in high regard by Google when it comes to SEO.

Google’s algorithms determine how high your website ranks in search results and can seem like a mathematical mystery. So when Google gives direction on what you should do to improve your search engine rankings, you should listen.

Such is the case with Google’s recent push for mobile-friendly websites that are legible and look great on mobile devices as well as on desktops and laptops.

Is my website mobile-friendly?

Mobile-friendly websites respond to the device on which they are viewed. Because they are “responsive,” they automatically resize to eliminate the need for side-to-side scrolling or zooming in to read the text on your smartphone or tablet.

If your website is not mobile-friendly, it will continue to work on mobile devices. However, since Google places great value on an optimum user experience, this places your search engine rankings at risk.

Remember, search engine rankings are a snapshot in time, similar to your personal physical fitness.

You can get in shape once, but to stay in shape, you have to continue working at it the rest of your life.

SEO-friendly websites are the same. You have to work at it constantly and adapt to ever-changing trends to stay on top of the heap. And you better believe your competition is working for that top spot as well.

To determine if your site is mobile-friendly, simply use the Google Mobile-Friendly Test tool.

If your site is not mobile-friendly, the sooner you act, the more SEO “fitness” you can maintain.
